Affirmative action has it's pitfalls. You should ask such organizations why they feel the need to segregate themselves along racial lines. Let's hope the day comes when such institutions are discarded.

Here we go kids!! Expect lot's of grandstanding and some real knee jerk legislation cause this IS the year to gear up for the big election. I wish someone would inform people that it's their responsibility to be informed consumers AND parents. My kid racked up $380 in cell downloads in one month. I didn't need my senator to step in. I took away her phone for a month, blocked her ability to purchase ANYTHING on it, and worked out the bill with my provider (AT&T) who practically wiped it all away. This is just going to burden us with more laws and subsequently, more taxes in the form of direct taxation of products, indirect taxes by way of price hikes due to a rise in business tax, or BOTH.

Is there any user-doable diagnosis for Mac 128K floppy drives? When I turn on the machine I get the expected flashing question mark. I then insert a system disk (newly written, non-defective 400K single-sided disk, system 1.01), but the disk does not click into place, nor does the drive start to turn. This is true both of the internal disk and an external disk. I get the same result (actually, lack of result) with any disk I insert, including the original system disk.

I have replaced the clock battery and verified that it is providing 4.5 v.

The front side of the programmer's switch button causes a restart to the flashing question mark; the back side of the switch instantly yields a Sad Mac, code "0F000D".

I'd sure like to do whatever I can by way of diagnosis before taking the unit to a repair shop.

    Many thanks,

    schuetz1619

With all of the recent excitement surrounding Valve's plans (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/04/29/valve-announces-may-12th-debut-for-steam-on-mac-os-x/) to bring Steam and its games to Mac OS X, it pays to remember that other game developers are still putting out Mac versions of their releases.

When you release the kinds of game-chaining products that Apple does, I'm kind of inclined to look the other way. Why not. Apple's earned special treatment for the time being. That is, for the time being.

Might doesn't make right. But being exceedingly awesome, does.

I know it sounds unfair, but **** it. Apple's changed the entire conditions of the game.

It doesnt matter what they've done, no company should deserve special treatment.

And "being exeedingly awesome" puts you above the law?

Well that confirms it, *LTD* is 14 years old.

    sry people, no update yet.

I didn't find the time to work on the new features last week. But, today i picked up the work again. I will probably be able to put out a new version by the end of this week. So don't despair...
If you don't see an update before monday next week you can start nagging, a tiny bit ;)

    Cheers

here are some good references to get a grasp of the differences. As others have stated, the lens is the same focal length, but on a smaller sensor body (APC), the image is essentially "cropped". Some websites..

    Site #1 (http://www.extremeinstability.com/topic-full-frame.htm)

    Site #2 (http://www.petapixel.com/2010/10/02/full-frame-vs-crop-sensor-comparison/)

    Site #3 (http://www.the-digital-picture.com/canon-lenses/field-of-view-crop-factor.aspx)

The second site is a video that is nice. 3rd site has good info.

    Apples and Oranges.

D&^$ it all anyway JD! I was gonna do an apples and oranges for this one. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Meanwhile, last day of a long weekend down here in the Baja. will post a few photos on the POTD thread from the trip - and ponder how to address this challenge WITHOUT apples and oranges. Darnit!

The sad part apparently is that although Nintendo hope for a big success they won't launch their console with any special games released by them. Apparently they will hope 3d parties will launch and promote the console with their apps.

I don't get the big deal. It only screams "rob me" if you have ****** friends and let everyone know where you live. If those apply to you, you've got far bigger problems than Facebook. Personally, i don't care what Facebook knows about me or shares with people.

No. They are worse than the IBM caricature that they painted back in 1984.

The good news is that Apple's iPhone OS won't be the dominating mobile platform for much longer. The sales numbers show that Android is quickly gaining momentum, and Google's marketplace is not censored at all and developers can choose whatever development tool they want to produce software for Android.

They can also produce malware (as they have) as easily. And Android is much harder to develop for. And the sales are 1/100th of the same app on iPhone.

We develop on nearly every mobile platform and the iPhone is the best for us. Not just because its fun to develop on, the APIs are great, the sales are great, but because frankly the entire thing is just a step above every other app store, platform, and company we've worked with in the last 10 years of the mobile space.

When users try to get in the midst of what developers have to deal with, they only get a very filtered view that does not encapsulate the true view.

Apple will soon fall back into that little niche where they came from. And they deserve it because of their megalomaniac behavior and arrogant attitude.

I strongly doubt it. As a mobile developer for 10 years I've got a pretty good handle of how these markets work and have been right most of the time. Android has way more major issues for devs and users to deal with than Apple. Its just that Apple's gets the press.

We develop for Android. I like Android compared to WinMobile. I like WebOS compared to WinMobile. But none of them compare to how much all of my engineers prefer developing on iPhone. And using the iPhone.

The biggest reason why Android will not overtake the iPhone in app sales is that the iPhone is consistent in its OS revisions. Android's open-ness which is a strength is also its biggest weakness. As a developer its a small nightmare to test and develop for it because of so many unknowns.

One day there may be more Android phones sold than iPhones, but app sales on the iPhone is still going to blow Android out the water.

Look at Symbian and Windows Mobile. For years Windows Mobile's smartphone software outsold their Pocket PC 10-1, yet app sales were reversed with the Pocket PC users buying software 10-1 for smartphone. Symbian app sales are nearly non-existent yet it blows every current Smartphone out of the water for unit sales.

Android's unit sales are 60k a day according to Google, yet software sales relative to iPhone shows that Android users simply don't buy apps at the same rate the iPhone users do.

Headset jack was removed, so had to buy a USB headset for example.

Headset jack was removed from the Mac? Since when? New Mac laptops have combined headset/microphone jack.

I love how innocent they make the kids out to be. Utterly ridiculous. I would have robbed my parents blind with this. "I thought it was smurf coins, mommy - not real money." ********, I would abuse the system. My sister racked up a $350 phone bill the first month she had a phone - in sixth grade. She knew she only had 100 txts back then, that didn't stop her from Txting. Point is, kids are going to download **** when they can, regardless of how many notifications say "warning! Daddy's credit card will be charged." Uh, oh, I better not buy the mightyeagle now!

The U.S. Military has been using Apple Computers for years. I know for a fact they were crucial in the development of RFID tracking used in logistics. They were also more difficult to hack into and required less IT support to maintain them in the field.

I was more referring to mobile devices, but you're right. They're still not anywhere near as widespread as Windows machines (at least in the branches I interact with), but I guess that's the case pretty much everywhere.

wtf? 4 years ago my brother (parents) had to pay $2000 for his "tablet PC" from HP in highschool. This works out to what, $470 a piece? Give me a break.
Just take off a zero; $479 apiece. Not ... that ... hard.

Why businesses need to often discount in the first place?
The education sector is a large reason apple still exists in the first place. A discount isn't much to ask.
