I live in the US but I have been to canada a number of times on extended business visits, and my impression was that quality of life is very good over there. Granted, you dont earn as much money (or possess as much in material wealth, as someone put it) as in the US .. but that is compensated for by much safer neighborhoods, good social security and far more immigrant-friendly policies. The immigrants are much more integrated into society there than the US. I realize this may not be true for all regions for canada, but at least in BC and Ontario its very true. So it depends what you are after .. opportunity and earning potential are both better in the US .. but overall quality of life is as good or better over there. The quick turnaround time for permanent residency makes it very attractive for young people like me who havent already invested in settling down in the US .. I would rather live with "limited" opportunity there than remain in the US and be at the mercy of a single employer for 10 years.

No way CIR or any form of amnesty for illegal will happen in the next few year.
Immigration is one thing where majority of Americans are united in controlling illegal population.
It can pass Senate but House it will never pass.
Moment CIR comes up, the right wing will arouse the masses. House members focus on more
local issues and in many districts people don't want illegal amnesty or CIR. They want a crackdown.
Democratic members in the House will never pass CIR against a Republican opposition otherwise they will pay a heavy price in the election.
In fact democratic party was able to get the house by selecting conservation candidates in the
conservative districts. That is was the Howard dean/Rahm Emanuel strategy. Select candidates who can win rather than candidates who are steadfast with core democratic party principles.
Thus you have democratic party members like Jim Webb who are ardent supporters of the NRA

thats ok, no need of apologies. all i am asking you is to keep it to the point that you opened this thread for and discuss the options. Ok what i have heard after calling Lufthansa is because of the new Schezewan (I knmow i spelled it worng) visa changes AP is no longer considered a valid visa document by Germany. It used to before but no longer and of course France, England and other countres never did. So coming back to Germany yes while travelling to and fro you need a transit visa (Direction does not make any difference because as far as Germany is concerned you are from India and you have no Valid visa to America and/or any european country so you are suspect of trying to illegally enter Germany and to avioid it you need to buy transit visa).
I myself was plannig for a trip and was trying for travle via Doha and Qatar where no transit visa is required. (Us to gluf direct flight. Gulf to any city in india) but the rates were high. If you like you can look at that opiton too. beats the hell out of going to teh german embassy and getting a transit visa. But if that is your preference go with it

Agreed 100%. Last year I was part of this lottery system, had a genuine job offer but was not lucky enough to be selected in the lottery. I know so many people who were lucky to get thru the lottery but are still hunting for jobs.

It is not true that Many people have to wait 10+ years to get gc. May be some people might wait for 10 years because of frequent change of jobs , layoffs and also ignorance of green card processing. Most of the time EB2 waiting time is 2 to 3 years. Indian EB3 is in worst situation but only for past 2 years and before that everything was current. For that also most waiting persons filed I 485 because of July VB issue. In my opinion EB3 PD will be backdated up to 5 years.
Also there is no legistrative activity in Congress about any immigration issue. Always skil bill comes in limelight when congress is in Session. But everyone knows that skil bill is asking too much in H1b and immigration numbers because of exemptions and it will be very difficult task. But no one in pro immigrant community is ready to compromise on numbers. When Congress tries to curb the abuse of H1b even pro immigrants are opposing the bills without any suggestion of any alternatives. If some bill comes for only GC that too moderate increase in numbers that will have bright chance of passing in congress.
You should not expect any rally will produce meaningful reform. because of the abuse of H1 & L1 by these companies, people who have actual job offers in U.S are not able to apply for H1b. These companies do a kind of visa gouging wherein, they get H1b approved and stamped for all the people they have on payroll in their offshore centers whether they are needed here or not and then, send them when they projects. This is nothing but visa gouging by this companies and abuse of the intent of H1 & L1. Although the bill has gone too far and tried to penalize everybody but instead it should look at stopping the visa gouging

I am going to share with you what I have done regarding refilling and why I have done that.
Call me a paranoid or something else but the fact of the matter is that time period between July 2nd and Aug 17th is a golden opportunity that may not present itself for several years now.
Though the chances of my application getting rejected due to mail room error is less but in the game of probability everyone of us stand equal chances of getting hit by a thunder bolt.
Just a side note - They install lightning rod on buildings to protect from lightening even though chances are 1 in 700,000. Well, my odds are much worse than that. Hence, I need to protect myself.
Regarding filling multiple 485 applications, Rajeev Khanna has categorically stated in one of his meetings that he is doing it. And we all know he is a person of good reputation.
There are two scenarios I can think about:
a) My July 2nd is accepted: In such cases either my later filled application is automatically rejected or they will send me a letter asking me to choose one.
Someone on one of his/her post had mentioned about stop payment idea. He may have a point. Call USCIS and you will find out that only thing they will do is reject your application, which is what you want if your earlier application is already in process.
Somebody also stated just like what they did in H-1B cases on 04/02/07, they may reject both applications, well; H-1B case was different due to lottery system.
b) My July 2nd application is rejected: Well, I just protected myself from a thunder bolt.
Having suffered in Green Card race for so long, my risk taking capacity has greatly been reduced. I am not advising or urging anyone to take any action. I am just sharing what I did.

Now call your employer to refund all your money with interest and the loss that you incured for working all these years and the opportunity that you have lost for not filing I 485, else you would file a case agains him with police and FBI for taking cash as this would not provide any proof for filing labor and not filing I 485.
Now you threaten that you would file a suit against him, give all kinds of threats to these A**H***S. sorry could not control my words.

2) my crystal ball tells me that there are gonna be people here who will post discouraging comments against this idea like they do to every other idea worth considering. These days they use the "these ideas divide the community" routine to kill initiatives like this.
3) quota exculsion and segregation would be awesome and very well deserved
In the same lines as H1B, could we look into if its possible to add a quota for US Masters degree holders irrespective of country of birth for green Card also. This would be in addition to the existing Employment based quotas.
Does anyone know how they added 20k H1B quota for Masters degree holders? Who sponsored that bill? May be we should talk to the same people.
I would think there would be a little less resistance for this? This would ease the pressure on both EB2 and EB3.
