Can someone tell me how long it takes to get 485 filing receipt? Who gets it ,you or the lawyer? What information should a responsible lawyer pass to you after 485 is filed?

I know this is forum is not the correct place to discuss this topic. But I am posting this because some members of the forum must have already faced ths issue.
I ahve a one month old newborn. We are planning to go to India for vacation end of July. I have to apply for my baby's US passport. But she has not received her SSN. The instuction says that SSN is not mandatory but IRS can fine you if you dont disclose that information. I tries to contact SSN office, IRS office and Passport Office. Each one will point to the other Agency. So not sure what what to do. Anyone who was in the same boat, please let me know whether there are any issues with applying for passport without SSN number.

YOu should go ahead and file your response to RFE. I had the same issue with my case when my attorney did not inform me of a RFE. After missing the deadline, I filed my repone through a different attorney explaining the problemand USCIS accepte my response.

Hello forum participants.
I am a dependent on an I-485 application, with my father being the primary applicant. The application has been pending since 2001, so I decided to first threaten USCIS with a lawsuit, and then maybe file a writ of mandamus. My question is whether I have authority to do so as a dependent. Can I represent the whole family or at least myself? My father is leaving the country for some time and it will be hard for him to participate in the process.

I started to notice this back in 2006 when the immigration debate was heating up in Washington. I was getting those annoying email forwards and this time they were of the Lou Dobbsian anti-immigrant variety. The surprising thing to me was that most of them were coming from older family members or acquaintances in the senior citizen set. And since then I've noticed that when I do presentations for civic groups or have observed focus groups on immigration, the older attendees seem to be more hostile. We filed for our 2nd AP on July 2nd. They received it on 8th and mine was approved on 22nd. Got my AP yesterday. No idea what happened to my spouse's. I got that RN from the back of the check and called USCIS. I entered the 10 digit RN and it said not enough numbers entered?? So i called again and said no RN and i got a cust service rep. I gave her the RN and she said they received it on 8th and is still processing it. She said it doesn't matter whether we filed together and asked us to wait 6 months.
Is this normal? I just hope the other AP is not lost.
Also since there is no expiry date on the AP, is it to be taken as its valid only for 1 year from the date of issue? We never had to use our 1st AP.

Hi, I have a query regarding the opt to h1b process ,the answer means a lot to me.
I am getting my h1b filed through a desi consultancy in the coming april in premium category.I am on opt and it has its validity till jan 2009.I will be giving interviews for a couple of finance firms in may/june in which i will most likely get one.now my point is i know i can change my job to this new company in june/july since i am on opt .I will take my h1b papers with me but come october i will get into h1b status.will it be a problem for me to remain in the new company which i shifted to, do i have to get back to my old company till i get atleast two pay stubs on h1b or is there any way to continue working in my new fin company without any trouble.the pay slips which i would have got during the months before i shifted jobs will they be suffiecient to get my h1b transfered to the new company.
Gurus pls throw some light. it is really very important for me.

Hi,
I missed to write my family name in I -94 and When I reached the SSN office to apply SSN, I came to know that the mistake to be corrected and I am advised to meet the immigration office.
Now I am planning to go back to India next month, If I apply for I -94 correction I will take more then 60 days to get the new I 94 and I have to attach the original I -94 along with I-102 form (form for I 94 correction).
So I can travel back to india without correcting the mistake in I 94 and without the orginal I -94.
Please reply me in details

I have been on q job with a client since October. The setup is like this. Me->my employer->Vendor-.Client.
The work order my employer has states that my work with the client ends June end, with a possibility of extension. if i file my h1b now, will i be a good candidate for rejection , considering that I do not have a long term project? Also, how true is it that the USCIS is giving visas out only for 1 year under such circumstances, as opposed to the regular 3 years term, and if true, how do I avoid it
Lastly, what is your take on how H1 filings on Apr 1 2010 will be? Is it expected to the same as last year, or will companies file left right and center on day 1 itself?
