Trains win that argument hands down.
Not hands-down. Trains win if the goods are (1) very high volume, and (2) are going only from station to station. You can't back a train car up to a Best Buy to unload a bunch of big-screen TV's. You still need trucks. With the growth of suburbs and the push westward, things aren't as tightly clustered as they once were; that causes trains to lose a lot of their luster as far as delivery efficiency.
Still, I get what you're saying.

I've had .mac for about three years now and I love it.
However, I've always thought that Apple should make it much cheaper ($25) so that the majority of users would snap it up. Storage is cheap nowadays and I seriously doubt that many users are using more than 50% of their allocation.
Also, I'd like .mac to be tied into iLife 07 and Leopard more, but made affordable for everyone.

I'm glad I read some reviews- I was about to try the contact syncing. In retrospect, that was stupid to even consider. I have a lot of value in my address book- info collected over many years. Why would I (1) send all that data to Facebook (do they keep it? do we know?) and (2) let said 3rd party app have run of the house, updating/deleting any and all of my contacts?
Like I say, I almost did it. But it would have been stupid. I *might* have been saved my MobileMe since I'm usually notified before it updates a given percentage of all my data. But still- a risk I don't want to take.
You fully, and completely misunderstand how the app works.
Sorry for your ignorance.
FYI.. no contact info is added or deleted.
Only contact pictures are synced, and a link to the persons profile is added as a webpage link in your contacts.
NOTHING is deleted
NOTHING is overwritten (unless you want to overwrite existing pics) - that's an option you chose.
the data is sent to facebook in order to "match" contacts by both name and email address.
What facebook does with the data... I assume nothing. you assume they share it. I suppose that topic is open for debate

I thought you guys in the USA encouraged free enterprise !!!
Even if these goods came from Foxconn (which I doubt) if Apple ordered some items then rejected them (and I assume didn't pay for them) they would still belong to Foxconn. If Foxconn threw them away then they abandoned title to them and they cant be stolen.
Last time I looked it was not illegal to export to the USA so as long as the tax man gets his share of the profit what's the problem?
I think it's more likely he just had them copied.
Sheesh, what happened to innocent till proven guilty ? Its not for him to prove anything.

I just got my betakey from a swedish online store called webhallen.se. I pre-ordered the game got the key sent to my mail 10 minutes later and then off booked the order. Maybe a bad way, but I'm buying the game later.
This is basically an open beta, so I don't see any problems in getting it this way. You could too with some google translation.

At this point in time most non-enthusiasts are barely comfortable reinstalling an OS. They'd be totally lost if OS X wasn't on a disc. I'm sure Apple doesn't want to have to deal with all the extra support calls and will provide Lion on DVD for any Mac that has a SuperDrive. DVDs are on their way out but still have a lot of mainstream life in them.

I wonder why the 2 plans have to be mutually exclusive. Why not download the whole database when you get it, for when you might not get coverage. And then automatically update when you do have coverage. When going somewhere, give priority updating to the current route and then download everything else. Maybe allow current route to be updated with EDGE/3G while whole database updates require Wi-Fi. Just my 2
That's exactly what i was thinking, makes perfect sense to me. Have a download of the standard maps, and have them update themselves as you travel.

I hope the super secret features aren't already in the preview (or at least disabled). If they were active, I'm sure people would be saying "wow that's a cool new feature!" Since I haven't heard any of that, and the secret stuff is active, then I guess Apple's making a mountain out of a molehill.

You should check out Air Video (the iOS app). It's the best solution I've found and with iOS 4.3 it works great for streaming all the .avi and .mkv movies on my HD to my apple TV via my iPhone.
It goes (Air Video server on computer) -> iOS device -> Apple TV.
It was probably the best $2.99 I've ever spent.
Yep, this is an awesome app. You have to manually download the BETA version of Air Video Server for it to do Video Airplay though. The regular release does not support it.

Does anyone know if the new Holiday Justin Long commercials will be advertised? If I remember correctly, the Will Ferrell ones were just online and not on any TV. At least not that I saw.
While I do enjoy debate (not argument) on religion, can we please move it out of this thread? I've created a new one where you can move the discussion to, if you would be so kind:

Yes, I agree. I'll move over... ;)
P.S. Is there a moderator out there that could move all the posts over??

Good idea using the Terminal. You could also use Network Utility if you want a GUI driven app.

I am trading this guy a crappy guitar for it. I don't plan on using it, just wondering if it is something I could flip and make a profit. And the guitar has not been used since I was around 10 and I am pretty sure it is from Walmart.

Apple would not put a capacitive home button. If anything, they'd remove the home button all together and use some of the new gestures that appeared briefly in iOS 4.3 to multitask and go home.

Closing is very intuitive. You click the red close button. What's so hard about that? Same for minimize.. click the minimize button. If you honestly are having trouble with that, you're an idiot.
Dumbed down? You have command-line access via the Terminal. It's ****ing UNIX man. That's a lot more access than Windows gives you.
As for it crashing, you didn't say at all what version of X you were running or anything.
Macs "almost" qualify as computers? Yeah, okay.
