I don't see any problem with the large number of categories either, just as long as all of them doesn't appear on the front page.

And we definitely should have separate categories for Apple software and hardware.

I still remember the day I got to bring one home for alerting the IT staff at my school to a security vulnerability on their only PC, allowing students to access faculty folders. Read up on basic programming. for instance:

    10 PRINT "HELLO WORLD"
    20 GOTO 10

I belive it's ctrl-c or :apple:-c to get it to stop.

As for games, try finding load runner or the original mario brothers. I still play load runner on the IIGS I keep around for gits and shiggles. Long live Mac OS 1.0. Fits on a single 3.5" floppy.

It sounds like you are regretting it already. But were you using them at all or were they in a closet somewhere? This might just be the same feeling when you give something away to Goodwill. If you haven't used it/thought of it in 6 months to a year, then get rid of it. If they were hanging up somewhere then maybe you should cancel your auction and bring those beauties home! :)

I got a Griffin "Elan Passport Metal" case from Best Buy with a cover flap. $23 or so. Doesn't look half bad. Should do the job.

I went to the Covent Garden store today and the employee(s) I spoke to said that the store will 'most probably' open at 8am instead of 9am next Friday for the launch *g*

What time were you planning on arriving? :)

Since the update, my iChat doesn't display my contacts names from Facebook anymore, just their numeric ID.
Anyone who has a clue how to fix this?

Heh, you really are turning into the old man of macrumors there jef ;) I agree though. It's a shame those you listed (and omitted) were either too contentious for others to handle, or lost interest due to one reason or another. There's so many new members now that it's hard to get to know anyone like in the early days of MR.

Then again, you could always become a demi. Things get a lot more personal in there ;)

Nobody knew that at the time that article was written. After E3 05 Sony had everyone believing the PS3's graphics were a bazillion times superior, even IGN and G4.

    True

what happened to the final product?

    It ran into reality. ;)

Don't get me wrong, the PS3 has very good graphics, and so does the 360. I have both, so I've seen what they can do right now.

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT), Apple added exFat support to 10.6.5 in November.

Terrific, I can reformat my storage partition as exFAT to have native read/write access in both OSs.

Unfortunately, sharing a folder on an exFAT volume still does not make the settings stick. I can only assume at this point that OS X only saves user permissions for HFS+ file systems.

Since I don't intend to share my files with anyone else, I've decided to enable Remote Login. By doing this, I would be able to see the entire hard drive on my MacBook Pro, but only after entering my username and password. A bit of an inconvenience to navigate through the folders, but it works.

I think you should as iSimx said, consider adjustments to boost the colours - this can be done in iPhoto and Preview.

Also consider straightening pictures (can be done in iPhoto easily) - several of your shots suffer from this problem.

If you don't like changes made you can always revert to the original as iPhoto keeps a copy.

It may have something running in the background that prevents the automatic sleeping. Check system prefs, accounts, your account, login items to see if it starts up automatically at login. If it does, select that and click the minus button. You can also check activity monitor to see if there are programs running in the background keeping it awake.

Didn't see this posted yet, I would hate to be on the Comair plane as it gets whipped around. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the collision of an Airbus A-380 and a smaller plane at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Air France Flight 7, bound for Paris, was taxiing on a runway Monday night when its left wingtip struck the tail of Comair Flight 6293, which had just landed from Boston and was taxiing to its gate at Kennedy, one of the nation's busiest airports.

    There were no injuries.

Both planes were being inspected Tuesday. Pilots and crew will also be interviewed.

Passenger Lawrence Grotts was on board the Air France plane.

"It really felt just like a speedbump or like hitting a pothole -- a jolt -- but it didn't feel right ... like that shouldn't be happening," he said.

The NTSB said it has requested the flight recorders and will review air traffic control tapes and what is known as ground radar data.

The double-deck Airbus A-380 had 495 passengers and 25 crew members on board, Air France said in a statement. The Comair CRJ 700 Regional Jet had 62 passengers and four crew members.

"This incident only caused material damage to the two aircraft," Air France said. The airline said it is assisting the NTSB.

Maxine Lubner, chair of the aviation department at Vaughn College, said communication could have been a problem.

"When the plane, the A-380, was on the taxiway, Alpha, it's under FAA control," she said. "The regional jet may have already been switched to the company's frequency."

Lubner said the Air France pilots should have been able to see the smaller aircraft.

Well right now I have two computers; my MacBook and my windows PC. I had the PC before hand so all of my files were on that; when I got the Mac I transfereed all of the important things over (pictures, school documents), and kept the movies and things like that on the old computer.

I take my Mac with me, the PC stays at home. Everything I do now is on the Mac, however whenever I download movies, tv shows, things like that I watch them on the 19 inch monitor I have hooked up to the windows laptop.

However for transferring a few files between I use DropBox; great little program that syncs everything in a free 2gb folder to unlimited computers (and devices like Android, iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad).

I'm looking at upgrading my Mac Mini to 8GB of RAM (from 4). I checked out the Apple store (eeek, I know) and it was around $600 CDN for the 8GB of RAM!!!!

Question, though...based on what I know of the type of RAM in the mini, I can purchase some non-Apple branded RAM form my local computer store for about $100.

I know Apple is over-priced, but this is insanely over-priced. Am I missing something or risking anything if I go with the non-Apple RAM?

Specifically, the RAM I'm looking at getting is this one:

you can always downgrade, unless there's something in 4.3.1 you really need.

Do you know by any chance how to downgrade?

I'm doing a website that will have some Flash animation in it. Is there a way to have it to where the browser can be checked to see if it has the Flash Player to view the Flash animation, then if it doesn't have it, a JPEG or GIF of the same dimensions as the Flash animation will be put in it's place?

    Any help is appreciated :)

I am used to the Mac OS (and my G4 is dieing). I'm leaning towards the iMac because I mostly have Mac software and it contains ALL of my music and photo's. However given the specs the Samsung looks tempting:confused:
