What form does your brokerage firm send you at the end of the year? Is it a 1099-INT form that records your profits for the year? What if it were a loss. Do you still get a 1099-INT.
An H1B working for a single employer will have only one W-2 but he / she may have different 1099-INTs from savings accounts / trading firms etc for filing taxes. This should be ok, correct?
Investments are not reflected on W2. If you use a broker such as TDAmeritrade etc they will issue you a 1099
You will receive an IRS Consolidated Form 1099 - an all-inclusive document showing your reportable income and transactions for the entire tax year - if your brokerage account received at least $10 in either dividends, interest or original issue discount (OID) income, or had an equity sale, in the 2008 tax year.
- You will not receive a Consolidated Form 1099 for a retirement account, tax-exempt account, corporate account or foreign account.
- In addition, you may receive a corrected Consolidated Form 1099 if you held an investment trust that reclassified income after this form was sent to you.
There are 2 sets of rates.

Below is a very good article from the "Economic Policy Institute " that highlights the fact that 2 well known Indian firms have single handedly lapped up 65% of H1B visas last year and have applied for just 69 green cards . Thats a GC application rate of 0.0004%. i Cannot help agree with the facts in this article. I totally agree that firms like these which abuse the system ought to be severely punished and blacklisted, so that geniunine US companies can get their required workers , when they need them . They can provide food, shelter and health insurance for their family during tough times, they are rich. 1) I have read some of your earlier posts on this thread and what you have primarily done is merely re-iterated what the issue is. Without any contribution or suggestion as to how to actually resolve it. And since the situation has continued to stay the same for several years due to Congressional indifference, you seem to have decided to pick on IV for all the faults with EB3 backlogs and the lack of effort therein to resolve the same. For a minute, please understand that we all know the facts and realize what plagues EB3 backlogs.
2)Yes I have been on every EB3 prediction thread and know the numbers are too bad to be resolved by anything other than CIR (dead) or standalone bills. I do not know why you are stuck on insisting that we all think EB2 becoming current is the only solace for EB3 (associated spillovers etc etc.). IF Eb2 I gets current - well and good - Eb3 will still need some legislative relief (here I go again with EB2 vs EB3 - something I hate to do). But then one of your original gripes seemed to be blaming IV for not considering EB3 provisions in this Diversity Visa Bill which, at this early stage, is completely befuddling!
3) Your entire approach of going after EB2 applicants and blaming them for your dreamt up failure of IV is insane. What failure are you talking about. IV is a success only problem is the success has been to a small group out of the complete EB community. What vitriol are you talking about. Yes, I am active now as I just joined newly/... not like you oldies....and inspite of this have done most of the things that have been asked from us....and by the way money is not the only way of helping....

Its very unfortunate, that most of us are very active only when a Visa Bulletin is released, bickering about EB1, EB3, EB1 etc. Then the topic dies until the next visa bulletin is released.
There are plenty of action items to do, have you checked those, I recommend you do that ASAP. Mind that the IV core also has a professional and personal life, no one pays them to do what they do at IV. Simply pointing fingers at others will not help with our cause. Contributing some $$ is also an action Item, I suggest you start with that.

Like many of you, I'm also affected by this. My wait is almost
8 years now. I dont blame any body because I'm from a country
where beaurocracy and corruption is more than this country. I dont
blame anyone because it was my choice to come here and it was
my choice to apply for a GC. Nobody forced me. I've always a chance
to leave at my will. My strength is the belief that my gods will never
let me down.
Now I respectfully request everybody to update just the CIR updates
on this thread.

It's extremely difficult, if not impossible to maintain PR status in both US and Canada due to the residency requirements. Once you get your US GC the best thing to do is to abandon your Canadian PR if you intend to live in the US and make your home here. Frankly I don't see any benefit of mainatining your Canadaian PR. If you try to do that it might even jeopardize your GC. Google and you will find lots of advice on this issue. I plan to live and work here in the US.

Some readers also suggested landing and come back using AVR as I have a valid HIB approval but still I am not feeling comfortable doing it. I guess I will not land there. My wife is on H4 visa with a valid I-94 (till Feb 2009) but her status will be on H1 from Oct 1st, 2007. Do we need to go for stamping before she starts working. Also who applies for SSN - Her employer and do we need to file ourselves. The employer kept the original H1. Do we need the original to apply for SSN? How soon can we apply for SSN?

Do you have any signature or delivery confirmation? I mailed on 3/11 and got signature proof that consulate has received and Ramana Rao had signed. You are now scaring me. I am going to call consulate tomorrow. Will keep you posted.
