We do not need Government to step in here, Apple provides several ways for parents to control this:

I think it's to hide how good OS X is. ;)

To be honest, this is a smart move from Microsoft. If there is one thing I cannot stand about Apple, it is the silly prices they charge. The Apple Tax is stupid.

Apple definitely has the coolness going and the "halo" affect from its iPhone and iPads but in this tough economic time. Its hard to 30% and more for a Mac and you're not getting any much different in terms of hardware (other then a glowing apple logo)

Good point (truly) ... but I stand by what I said too. I think if your scenario wwas true then we would see Creative Zen adapters or SanDisk Snasa adapters on the market - at least they have proven marketshare against the iPod. Still ... it will be interesting to see how this will pan out.

What i wonder is if the Wifi the Zune uses for file transfers will be banned on planes. If it's not, then i want to be able to use Wifi for any device on a plane.
You currently are not allowed, by law, to broadcast any signals on airwaves on an aircraft while in the air. Bluetooth, WiFi, phone, etc.

It is funny HOW NO ONE clicked on these links. It has all the info here, and you can see what the differences are... or people can just keep arguing.

An image like the ones linked are just about the best way to illustrate the difference.

having attempted to read the entire thread, I cannot for the life of me understand what thatisme and flosseR are arguing about!

It is SO SIMPLE. Take lens "X", assuming it functions on both Crop and FF cameras.

Shoot a scene with "X" on a FF camera. If you crop it down to .625 of it's original size from the center, you will have the EXACT same image as the crop sensor camera produces with "X", noise/details/crap like that aside.

    There is no argument here.

Therefore the average Japanese would pronounce 'lobster' with an 'L' but 'rabbit' would be pronounced 'labbit'.

Actually, the English word "rabbit" is pronounced "rabitto" in Japanese, without any hint of an "l" sound.

The Japanese "r" sound is not an "l" sound, but rather a short, rolled-tongue, nasal "dr" sound. (Imagine "drabbito," with the "dr" sound coming off the tongue very lapidly, er, rapidly.)

winclone hasn't been updated in a while but could still work for you.

however, also have a look @ Casper (http://www.fssdev.com/).

I know about the WinClone part, but how would one run Casper when restoring the Windows partition?

It says the following on its website:

Casper provides a near-instant recovery capability by creating a fully bootable backup of a Windows system drive, including a backup that can boot and run directly from an external USB drive.

Requires computer with BIOS support for booting from USB hard disk drive (USB-HDD) devices. Not all computers support booting and running from USB hard disk drive type devices.

Does that mean, a backup via those means could be booted from an external HDD connected to a Mac?

I'm sorry for everyone with a PowerPC Mac, but the sooner the PowerPC is a distant memory, the better for the platform.

I'll agree with that if you're willing to cover the bill on a new Intel Mac of my choosing for me. ;)

Incorrect assumption - as a result,

    ...your math is wrong.

60 psi is 60 psi, period. If the tire pressure in the truck is 60 psi, then the pressure on the road is 60 psi. You can't double the tire pressure and triple the pressure on the road as a result - you'd have a truck that either bounced, or sank. Newton's laws (net vertical force = 0 for no acceleration in the vertical direction) have to be met.

It doesn't matter if my math is wrong or my assumption about surface area is wrong. The simple fact remains that the tractor trailer has 14.666 times the weight of the car but only 4.5 times the number of tires of the car. Even if that means that factor of 3.25 is completely compensated by the tire in a ratio of 60/35, you're still applying roughly double the pressure over an area 3.25 times greater, 4.5 times as often.

(regarding PSI, while I think your assumption probably roughly holds, we also have to take into account the fact that as these tires have a different composition, they are also going to dissipate weight differently. Tractor trailer tires are not only larger, but they are also thicker. That means that there is more rubber in each tire to distribute force from the truck to the road. i.e. its tendency to deform as a result of weight applied is what affects its PSI. Consider an extreme example: A fictional monster truck tire almost completely rubber with a very small chamber inside the tire. If it is sufficiently small, you could even create a vacuum inside this chamber, and the structure of the tire could still handle the stress. So, regardless of the amount of fictional weight you placed on the tire, that chamber would still have a PSI of 0 because there's no actual gas to be pressurized. Thus, if the tractor trailer tire has more structural rigidity, a higher portion of its weight is directly applied to the road via the resistance of the tire to deformation from pressure.)

Why is that not unrealistic? NYC has 8.3 million people as of 2008. Even if 99,999 people had their identities stolen for iPhones, that's only 1.2% of the population. Consider that as of 4.6% of the population were victims of ID fraud according to the Federal Trade Commission.

I think it would take less than 99,999 cases in a concentrated area for AT&T to consider potential fraud a problem. Even 50,000 iPhones and accounts lost due to fraud would cause about $15 million in losses, assuming an average $300 subsidy per iPhone.

Also: it's not just ID theft that could be the issue here. there are other ways to scam iPhones off AT&T and resell them.

Hold on. ID theft is not nearly as commonplace as 1.2% in NYC and it wouldn't mean that half of them would get iPhones. Operations that large have IDs from all across the country, if not the world. It is rather strange that AT&T's timing is right during the holiday season when a huge amount of people would be purchasing an iPhone and it is not like these thieves would be waiting til the holidays to use this info. You would have to believe that AT&T is willing to lose all the online sales from the iPhone on Christmas to stop some thieves.

Great idea to utilize the head lost in powerloss of a conductor while a computer is running through an energy conversion chip. The only problem is, every conductor has some sort of powerloss, so if we have tons of heat will it generate more heat since we are using electricity gained from powerloss? I guess if this chip works you'll be able to cut down on the imput source since your utilized heat lost in the form of electricity that is recirculated throughout the system.

NYC and San Francisco have toyed with the ideas but so far nothing has come of it. It takes a strong political will to make it happen I'm sure. In the end though, I can hardly see any other viable options for large cities.

The only city I've ever been to which isn't congested is Singapore - and they have excellent public transport, very wide roads, very high taxes on car ownership (this gives some idea (http://www.expatsingapore.com/content/view/1161)) and road pricing in the centre.

Very skillful in how Jobs face and legs are hidden. Im beginning to think the newspapers are right about his condition.

Also, pretty tasteless to dress the way he does. I'm not a fan of Obama, but if I were to meet him and sit next to him for dinner, I would respect the office enough not no dress in freakin' turtle neck.

    Jobs has ZERO class, none.

My parents are the same way. They hate Obama, and yet get offended if someone doesn't dress up for him. Funny how that works.

I remember Spock from Star Trek basically made a comment about TV like that. I believe the episode was called "Bread and Circuses". Spock didn't say Scary but since he is half human he probably thought that.

There was a quote in Star Trek NG that said something along the lines of "TV was a fad in the 20th and early 21th century"!!
